A cylindrical tank has radius

cm. Find its capacity in litres. Give your answer correct to 1 decimal place. (1 litre = 1000 cm³)

$V = \pi r^2 h$
$= \pi \times 11^2 \times 16$
$= \pi \times 121 \times 16$
$$= 6082.1$ cm³$
$\text{Capacity} = \frac{6082.1}{1000}$
$$= 6.1$ litres$

Answer: $6.1$

Example 2

A cylinder has total surface area

66\pi

cm² and radius

cm. Find the height.

$\text{Total SA} = 2\pi r^2 + 2\pi r h$
$66\pi = 2\pi \times 3^2 + 2\pi \times 3 \times h$
$66 = 18 + 6h \quad \scriptsize\textit{divide both sides by } \pi$
$$6h = 48$$
$h = \frac{48}{6}$
$$= 8$ cm$

Answer: $8$
