Why Linear Functions Matter

Every time you check how much mobile data is left, your phone runs a linear function. A 20 GB plan used at 1.5 GB a day leaves y=201.5dy = 20 - 1.5d GB after dd days, 20 GB on day 0, 5 GB by day 10. The same straight-line relationship prices taxi fares and electricity bills, and it is the algebra behind every graph in this chapter.
